Thanksgiving is always the perfect occasion to eat a little extra dessert, and to really evaluate what we are most thankful for. Aside from our dedicated board, our 1,000+ members and the involved community in Vestavia Hills the Chamber staff individually wrote what we are most thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving from us to you!
Katie: I am thankful for my sister, Mary who is also my roommate and best friend, and never fails to make me laugh. I’m thankful for my parents, who love me unconditionally, and who have worked so hard to provide the best opportunities for Mary and me. I am thankful to have grown up in this community, surrounded by people who never hesitate to lend a helping hand to a neighbor in need and to have attended its wonderful school system. I am thankful to live in a country that believes in liberty and justice for all, and for the brave men and women of our military who sacrifice so much to keep us safe.
Karen: I am thankful for the freedom to worship as I choose and to live in a country tat values freedom but more importantly to serve a God that has given the ultimate sacrifice for me. I am thankful for my family, my wonderful husband and soul mate, Steve and my wonderful son, daughter in law and daughter that give me such joy and purpose in life everyday AND a grandson that will be coming in early spring! I am blessed to live in a great community where people care about each other and look after their neighbor, AND I am so very grateful to have an incredible group of women to work with that inspire me and make my job so easy everyday and together make such a difference in the lives of our residents. I am blessed beyond what I deserve!
Lisa: I am most thankful for my family: my husband, Reid, of 30 years this coming October, sons Wade & Ryan and for the families in which Reid and I were reared. In my family, the O’Connell’s, I’m #5 of 6 siblings so Thanksgiving – with our extended families in Tallahassee- feels a lot like a Chamber luncheon! I’m blessed by my in-laws, the Christopher’s of Guntersville, AL., are so fun to be with and wonderful to me that I honestly wish we could be in two places at once during the holidays! I’m also incredibly thankful to have the opportunity to do the jobs I love with the people I love! Working with the Chamber and Alliance Publishing Group affords me the opportunity to meet so, so many wonderful people! I love learning who they are, and what they are trying to accomplish and how I can help. Nothing make me happier than bridging connection for other to succeed. For 16 years I had the best mentor/boss and dear friend show me the ropes. Sallie Creed Farmer, who in 2001 allowed me to volunteer as much of my time to serve as Chair of the 2001 VH Board of Directors. My love for the Chamber runs deep and long. God blessed me with having so many wonderful people and activities in my life that my day rarely ends when I wish I could have done more or spent more time with others. It would be a great pleasure to connect with you in 2014!
Allison: This year has brought lots of change, but lots of faithfulness and provision from the Lord! My husband, Kevin and I moved from California to Birmingham six months ago so he could start Grad School at Beeson Divinity, on the campus of Samford University. A few short days after we arrived I was blessed with getting a job at the Chamber. These past six months have been a pleasant whirlwind of connecting with the Chamber staff, our members and companies in the area- really making it feel like this is becoming my home. I am beyond thankful for Kevin, our two fluffy puppies, and our church community at Shades Mountain Baptist. Through Karen Odle and a family friend, Kevin and I found out about Shades. We not only love attending, but Kevin is now working there as the University and Young Marrieds Assistant. I couldn’t be more thankful to be in Vestavia Hills!
